She was a consistent university scholar and graduated cum laude from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) in 1996. She also passed the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Board Exam that same year. At the same university, she finished her post-graduate studies with a degree of Master in Business Administration (MBA) in 2008.

Melay gained her almost 12 years of experience in managing financial and management accounting processes as well as in tax planning and government reportorial compliance during her stint at Air Liquide Philippines, Inc. (ALPI), a multinational company engaged in industrial gas manufacturing and service activities.  She also earned her auditing experience during her stay at SGV & Co.  She continues to develop her professional skills by attending seminars, hands-on training workshops and short courses in different fields.

She is a member of Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and has obtained her PRC License as Real Estate Broker (REB) in 2012.
